Welcome to The Hersham Hub’s Community page dedicated to Elmbridge Community Link (ECL)
The following is an excerpt from the ECL website (http://www.eclwalton.org.uk)
“We’re here to enrich the lives of people with learning disabilities.
ECL is a registered charity, founded in 1994, that offers all sorts of activities for people with learning disabilities in the Borough of Elmbridge.
A learning disability is something that affects someone all their life.
It’s a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities, like household tasks, socialising or managing money.
ECL is here to help members gain the skills and confidence to manage their lives more easily, as well as make friends and have fun.
Sometimes people with learning disabilities have other emotional or physical conditions – our staff have experience in dealing with these.
All our activities are overseen by the charity’s three experienced part-time staff, helped by local volunteers.
Our members have varying degrees of learning disability. Our role is to encourage each and every member to broaden their horizons by engaging them in a variety of projects which interest them and which they enjoy.
Because our members are actively involved in planning our projects, they get a sense of ownership which improves their self-confidence. In fact, several members have been able to look outside ECL to take up volunteering roles in the wider community.
For 2015, each activity costs £5 a session to attend including refreshments. Fees are payable termly in advance.”
