Halloween Half Term Activities

2017 continues its relenting march with the final Half Term of the year!

As always we have searched high and low across across Surrey to bring you details of lots of great activities you can do during the October Half Term – many places make a bit more of an extra special effort to get into the Halloween spirit so there is lots of fun to be had!!

As you would expect there are more pumpkins than you can shake a witches broomstick at!

You can also find Lizards & Reptiles, Birds of Prey, Arts & Crafts, plenty of Spooky Trails, Halloween Jitterbugs, Storytelling, Spooky Train Rides and much much more Halloween fun!

Bocketts Farm – Wizards and Witches Week!

21st – 29th October 2017

Enjoy a spooktacular day out at Bocketts Farm with a full programme of fun and freaky farm activities:

  • Complete the spooky trail around the farm where each child can collect a treat!
  • Get creative in our creepy craft corner!
  • Meet amazing reptiles, snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies in hands-on sessions each day!
  • Be entertained by our wizard magician in fun shows throughout the day!
  • Hundreds of homegrown pumpkins for sale – perfect for carving at home!
  • Plus, enjoy daily Animal Handling sessions, Goat Milking demonstrations, Tractor Rides (£1.50), Pony Rides (£2) and Pig Racing.
  • Don’t forget our Indoor Play barn is heated in the Autumn/Winter too!

All Halloween activities included in the entry fee.



Brooklands Museum

Half Term Family Fun

October 23 to 27 – 10:00 to 17:00

The ever popular vintage car rides will be operating from 11am-1pm and from 2-3.30pm (subject to weather).

Half Term Workshop

Workshop open 11am – 12:00pm and 1pm – 3:00pm. 

Create your own masterpiece using the magic of centrifugal force to create your own spinning art. All materials will be provided by the museum. All materials will be provided.

Free drop-in activity.


Chertsey Museum – Autumn Half Term Fun

Frankenstein Heads

24 October 2017 – 1pm to 2pm or 2.30pm to 3.30pm

Recycle a small box into a Frankenstein monster head to scare your friends.

Age Range 5 to 12 years (5 year olds must be accompanied by an adult). Advance booking required

Haunted Halloween Bunting

26 October 2017 – 11 to 12.30 or 2 to 3.30

Use your creativity to make some spooky bunting with monsters, witches and ghosts!

Claremont Gardens

Gothic Halloween Trail

21st to 31st October – 10:00 to 15:00

Head out into the garden on a Gothic-themed family trail. Collect your trail sheet at the kiosk.

Normal Admission Charges plus 50p for the trail.

Halloween Craft Workshops

23rd to 27th October – 11:00 to 13:00

Get creative with Gothic-themed spooky crafts this Hallowe’en season.  Helpers will be on hand to assist you with your creations in this seasonal children’s workshop.

Normal Admission Charges plus £1.50p for the workshop – Free entry to the garden for children dressed in Hallowe’en costume.

Pumpkin Carving

Thursday 26th October – 11:00 to 13:00

Grab a spoon, scoop out your pumpkin’s brains, and carve a terrifying face to scare all your neighbours in this Hallowe’en workshop. Helpers will be on hand with tools and stencils to copy.

Normal Admission Charges plus £1.50p for the activity.

Halloween Storytelling and Spooky Walk

Friday 27th October – 16:00, 16:30 and 17:00

Listen to spooky stories in the play area, then steel your nerves for a sinister saunter around the garden as darkness falls. Don’t forget your costume for free entry to the garden (event charge still applies). Suitable for children of all ages.

Bring a torch – the garden will be very dark! Dress warmly as the event takes place outdoors.

Normal Admission Charges plus £1.50p for the activity.

Denbies Halloween 10km and 2km

Saturday 28th October

A terrifying 10k hosted by Denbies, promising a dastardly route that undulates over paved tracks and off-road trails with a few tricks and special surprises along the way.  For those who aren’t quite ready for 10K there is a family-friendly, scary sprint over a shorter 2K course.

Every finisher will get a special luminous medal and a goody bag at the end.

  • Choose a pumpkin from the PYO field or farm shop
  • Be as creative as possible – pumpkin carving kits available at the farm shop

Ham House

Join us from 21-29 Oct for Hallowe’en hocus pocus at Ham House. Take part in our children’s Witch Hunt, decorate a pumpkin biscuit or make your own witch’s hat.

Pumpkin Biscuit Decorating

Get creative with pumpkin biscuit decorating; much tastier than pumpkin carving. Decorate pumpkin-shaped biscuits hand made in the Ham House Kitchen with icing.

Make a Witches Hat

Available all week 12noon-4pm.

Visit our servant’s quarters Below Stairs and make your own witch’s hat. Assemble the cardboard hat and decorate it with sequins, feathers and tissue paper.

Spooky Storytelling

12.30, 1.30 and 2.30pm on select days

Spooky storytelling will be held throughout the week to entertain your little ones with ghostly tales of Ham House. Learn about the ghost dog, or find out if the Duchess was a witch herself?

Ask at reception for availability on the day of your visit, stories will be told at 12.30, 1.30 and 2.30pm on select days.

Stories are suitable for children under 10.



Hampton Court

Horrible Hampton

21st to 29th October February, 11:00-16:00

Do you have the stomach to pull rotten teeth, wash the King’s underwear, scour the ‘gong’ from the toilets and investigate what’s happened to the ‘Royal Wee’?  Or would you let things go down the pan?

A strong stomach could prove to be an advantage for anyone thinking of taking part in these fun, family sessions. Come along and offer your services to His Majesty!

Autumn Half Term Trail

23rd to 29th October – 10:00 to 17:00

Learn about leaves and the trees they fall from on a fun autumn trail through our park and woodland. Take a leaf rubbing of some of our most spectacular species as you stroll through fiery seasonal colour.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

London Bus Museum


22nd October – 10:00 to 17:00

There will be heritage bus trips, horse bus rides (extra charges apply), a large collectors’ market, Punch and Judy show, live music and children’s attractions. This event is not just for transport enthusiasts, but fun for all the family as well!

Normal admission charges apply and there will be extra parking in The Heights – please follow event signage on the day.

Wild Halloween Camp

Monday 23rd to Friday 27th October – 09:00 to 16:00

Monday: Deep Dark Woods
Head into the deep dark woods to build a hut fit for the wickedest of witches. Gather round the campfire for lunch before an afternoon of spooky woodland wide-games.

Tuesday: Monster Madness
Build monstrous sandcastle lairs and make a messy mud monster and Halloween mask. Build a fire to make yummy campfire doughnuts and roasted toffee apples.

Wednesday: Trick-or-Treat Treasure Hunt
Face the tricky challenges as you search for treats through the spooky woods and gothic ruins. Set up tipi camps in the woods for lunch and have a go at lighting your own fire to toast a treat.

Thursday: Halloween Feast!
Gather round a blazing fire to cook a Halloween feast of witch-fingers-in-a-bun with extra blood (hotdogs and ketchup!) and toasted-eye-balls (marshmallows!). As the sun sets, carve Jack o’lanterns to light your way home.

Friday: Wild Dens Halloween Special
An extra-special den building day; decorate dens with spider web dream catchers and paint them with mud, smashed chalk and home-made charcoal.

Children MUST be 8 years to 13 years.

Cost: £40 per day or £170 for 5 days

Polesden Lacey

Halloween Half-term trail

Saturday 21st to 29th February – 10:00 to 15:00

Join us this October half-term on our Halloween trail.

Toto has come to Polesden Lacey to ask his cousins for help. He desperately needs to return to Oz, because he has a dazzling ruby collar waiting for him, but he can’t get home. The Tinman, the Scarecrow, and the Lion have also each lost something very important to them.

Overcome the dangerous encounters and outwit the wicked creatures on the yellow brick road to help them find what they’ve lost, and to help Toto find his way back, because after all, there’s no place like home…

Help Toto the dog make his dark and dangerous journey through Oz in the search for the ruby collar that will transport him home.

£3 per trail (plus normal admission)

Wild Learning Camp

Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th October – 10:15 to 16:15

Explore the wild woods at Polesden Lacey, hunt for giant Roman snails in the chalk pit, play hide and seek through the hazel copse or try to find the stalactites under the stone bridge. Then try your hand at fire lighting, make a den or look for flints (and more snails or even a slow worm!) in the chalk meadowland.



Squires Garden Centres

Create & Grow Spooky Half Term Fun

Monday 23rd – Tuesday 31st October 10am – 4pm at all centres (except Chertsey and Woking)

Our popular Create & Grow spooky half-term is back with new activities for you to enjoy.

Paint a ceramic pumpkin or scary skull tealight holder to take home with a complimentary LED tealight. Place them on your windowsill to brighten up your room during those long spooky evenings – £5.50 each.

Take part in our free monster pursuit and ghostly colouring competition where you will receive a sticker and a chance to win a prize.

Fancy dress is welcome!
