Review of Lucien’s Restaurant, Weybridge

Did you know that the old Sosios restaurant on Oatlands Drive,Weybridge has recently been taken over by a new gastro team Lucien and Jo, and is now called, yes you’ve guessed it, ‘Lucien’s’…

To find out a little more we had a quiet word with one of our mystery diners and asked them to pop along and tell us what they thought….

I was delighted to be invited by The Hersham Hub to review the new restaurant Lucien’s on Oatlands Chase.

It used to the be called Sosio’s (which I had been to and been unimpressed with and never returned to). It was bought last year and taken over by new owners Jo and Lucien and renamed Lucien’s.

My first impression of the surroundings were that the decor could do with a little freshen up, however this is a new business and as I know from running my own it’s not always possible to do everything you want to when you start up – better to get going and do something and tweak and improve as you go along (it works for Apple after all).

We had a warm welcome from Jo as we came in and immediately shown to a table and offered drinks.

Weirdly my dinner companion (to be referred to as MBF from now on – male best friend) and I didn’t fancy wine so we asked for gin and tonics.

Jo was very accommodating and we had a range of gin to choose from – normal, sloe and local. I tried a local one from Silent Pool and MBF had a purply sloe. Both very tasty.

We were both ravenous and cheekily asked how big the portions were – we needn’t have worried as they turned out to be very generous.

I started with snails (12 of) which were very tasty – I ended up looking like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (well kind of) as my snail utensil meant the slippery little suckers’s shells flew around my plate.

I resorted to a fork and they were very tasty. MBF had garlic mushrooms on toast and they were super tasty too (I had to try them for the review of course).

Mains were steak for me and coq au vin for MBF. My steak was deliciously tender and the coq au vin was extremely flavoursome.

Side vegetables were very generously sized (they could probably even reduce the portion sizes!). I had a side salad with my steak and the dressing was delicious.

A few more G&Ts and we were ready to contemplate the bill but then Jo tempted us with a dessert and so we shared a lovely cheesecake.

Full to the brim we paid our bill and headed home.

In conclusion, my overall opinion is it’s great to see an independent restaurant in the area instead of yet another chain but that as a new business they really need help getting the word out (as a local business owner I have offered to help them with marketing) – you may not have even realised they are there – parking is free in the car park over the road in the evening so there’s no excuse.

I would say get down there, support a local business and give them a go – the welcome is warm and genuine and you certainly won’t leave feeling hungry!
