FAMILY WORKSHOPS

During school holidays we offer a range of hands on and engaging family workshops in our learning zone. Please see below for forthcoming activities.

SUMMER HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

Did you know that our oceans cover over 70% of our planet? There are so many reasons why we need to keep our oceans healthy. As well as being home to amazing wildlife, our oceans provide food for billions of people and income for millions. But things are not going swimmingly at sea. Did you know an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in the oceans every year? Many of the sea creatures we love – birds, fish, turtles and whales – die because of the plastic that’s suffocating our seas.

This summer we will be travelling into the deep blue ocean to celebrate some of the special marine wildlife that lives there and to find out practical things we can all do to help protect our seas. Families will create beautiful arts & crafts inspired by the big blue ocean which you can take home or add to our summer artwork in the learning zone.

Workshops running across multiple dates in August.

Suitable for ages 4+. Free, suggested donation £3 per child.

FAMILY DISCOVERY SESSION AT THE LIVING PLANET CENTRE WILDLIFE GARDEN

Friday 3 August, Drop in 2 – 4pm

Our urban gardens provide essential habitats for an array of wildlife, from worms, insects and spiders to the bees and butterflies that pollinate our flowers. They are havens that help us to feel better too, as we sit and relax, and notice the scents, textures and changing seasons.

Join us for an afternoon of discovery with our guest gardening experts from RHS Garden Wisley.

Discover a magical world of insects hiding amongst the stems and leaves of our plants
Learn about trees, shrubs and flowering plants that will help you bring wildlife into your garden
Be transported by the perfumed flowers and herbs in our Apothecary Garden, and learn how to grow them in a bed or container
This event is supported by the RHS and WWF, working in partnership to help you transform your own garden or a local green space for the benefit of people, wildlife and the environment.

There will also be the opportunity to visit the WWF experience. Take on our Animal A-Z challenge and explore the different zones to solve all the clues. You can also create arts and crafts inspired by dragonflies and pollinators found in the WWF wildlife garden.

Please register at the Living Planet Centre reception on arrival. Suitable for children 4+.
