The whole family will be catered for as the bigger and better ‘Little Foodies’ children’s area returns to the Festival. A full programme of children’s entertainment will be available on both days and will include:-
• Exploring the amazing gardens of Painshill with the Elmbridge Borough Council Countryside Team on a treasure trail and bug hunt.
• ‘Catch-a-balls’ coaches will be on hand to help teach children ball skills with a big emphasis on fun.
• To develop the next Dali or Banksy, Dib Dab Art Club will encourage children’s creativity and imagination.
• High drama is in store with the popular Pyjama Drama as they bring their passion for drama to the children attending the Food Festival.
• Dance fever comes to the Food Festival with Outside of the Box dance company.
• Expect to see lots of superheroes and beautiful butterflies as face-painter ‘About Faces’ transforms the little ones at Festival.
• Is it a dog, a sword or a flower? You will have to wait and see what our balloon modeller creates
• The Elmbridge Museum team will show the children how to make sweets Tudor style
Food and drink produce from Elmbridge and beyond will be available to sample and buy over the two days. Everything from Indian street food to churros to gluten free cakes to Galician seafood will be on offer.
The Food and Drink Theatre is the centre piece of the Festival. This is your opportunity to learn skills and the tricks of the trade from the masters, whether the art of Thai cooking with the Siam Food Gallery or cooking without gluten from the Free From Market team.
What’s a Festival without music? As you amble around the Festival or perhaps as you enjoy a picnic lunch, the jazz and swing sounds of the Ember Big Band and the Elmbridge Choir will fill the air. Or perhaps you prefer more modern music? There will be a host of young, local talent to entertain you, all musical tastes will be catered for.
Councillor Mary Sheldon, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, is thrilled at the way this year’s Food Festival is shaping up; “The Elmbridge Food Festival is an event for the whole family and I am delighted that our ‘Little Foodies’ are being entertained in such an interesting and varied way. The Festival is such a wonderful event and I encourage all our residents to come to Painshill and to enjoy the great variety of food stalls, demonstrations, music and children’s entertainment on offer.”
The Leader of Elmbridge Borough Council, Councillor John O’Reilly, said the Festival put the spotlight on all the great food and drink the area had to offer.
“Our first ever Elmbridge Food Festival was a standout success and we want to continue to focus on local producers, restaurants and high quality, artisan food-based businesses based throughout the Borough,” Cllr O’Reilly said.
“I encourage all residents and visitors to Elmbridge to come along to the Food Festival at Painshill, to sample all the wonderful produce, experience the live cookery demonstrations, relax in the picnic area and mostly, to enjoy all that the Festival has to offer.”
More than 9000 people attended the 2014 inaugural food festival and based on this year’s line-up of activities, a similar strong attendance is expected. Entry and car parking for all visitors to Painshill will be free over the course of the weekend. Gates will open each day at 10.30am and close at 5pm.
