Love Hersham – February 26th to April 5th
Love Hersham Launch – January 30th
The launch night for Love Hersham took place at St Peter’s church on the 30th January. Around 150 people from the community came together to hear about the project.
The evening began with an introduction from Rev Jackie Richardson who talked about the vision behind Love Hersham. The project was inspired by the Molesey churches who have been running Love Molesey for the last two years. Love Hersham aims to show love to people in the local community through lots of different social action projects. Love Hersham is being organised by the churches of Hersham, but they are keen to partner with lots of community groups and individuals.
Love Hersham will take place during Lent 2020 from 26th February to 5th April.
Heather Fellows talked through how the projects will work and how you can get involved. The Love Hersham website www.lovehersham.co.uk has details of all the projects which have been proposed so far. Each project has a page with further information and a sign up form which you can fill in to get involved and volunteer your time. Whether you can spare an hour to help with a litter pick or 3 hours to help clear up the local woodland, then Love Hersham would love to hear from you.
We then heard from different community groups about projects they are running or would like help with. Walton Charity, the Walton and Hersham Foodbank, the Hersham Hounds, St Peter’s church fellowship, Whiteley Village, Hersham Girlguides, Keep Hersham Tidy and Hersham Baptist Church all spoke about projects which they will be running.
The Mayor of Elmbridge Mary Sheldon then said a few words adding her support and encouragement to Love Hersham.
At the end of the evening there was a chance to speak to different project organisers and lots of people signed up to help with projects and a few people suggested new ones as well. If you have an idea for a project then you can still get in touch with the Love Hersham team my emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Keep an eye on the Love Hersham Facebook page for updates and visit www.lovehersham.co.uk for more information. Also keep an eye out for the orange Love Hersham t-shirts!
Love Hersham Introduction – January 16th
We were delighted to receive a message recently from Heather Fellows of Hersham Baptist Church telling us all about Love Hersham.
Love Hersham is a fantastic project being organised for Lent by Heather and Rev. Jackie Richardson from St Peter’s – the launch event will take place on Thursday 30th January at 7:30pm at St Peter’s Church.
Rev. Jackie Richardson was on Radio Woking this morning telling DJ Jon Andrews all about Love Hersham – if you missed it here’s the recording:
Here’s a bit more information from the Love Hersham team:
“I am writing to let you know about an exciting community project for Lent 2020 called Love Hersham. Love Hersham is being organised by the churches of Hersham to show love in as many ways as we can to our community during the season of Lent. We hope to undertake a series of community action projects from litter picking, to painting community spaces, to gardening for the elderly, to putting on free coffee mornings and many more ideas.
Love Hersham will begin on Wednesday 26th February and finish on Sunday 5th April with a final celebration on the afternoon of the 5th April to hear all about the projects which have taken place. More details to follow.
We would love this to be a project that includes the wider community as we know that lots of people love Hersham just as much as we do. We also know how much people gain from doing things for others and how much joy it brings to everyone involved. We already have a number of different community groups partnering with us for Love Hersham and we hope you will want to be involved too.
We would love to hear whether you have any ideas for projects we could undertake as part of Love Hersham and also whether you and your organisation would like to take part in a project yourselves. You can set up your own project or join in others that are going on in the community. We simply ask that you let us know how many hours you have committed to ‘loving Hersham’ so that together we can demonstrate just how much this community means to us.
Our launch event will take place on Thursday 30th January 2020 at 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church in Hersham.
You are warmly invited to join us for the evening to hear more about Love Hersham, find out about some of the projects being organised and to sign up to help with a project.
More information can be found on our website www.lovehersham.co.uk where you can also sign up to volunteer for a project.
You can also follow our Facebook page ‘Love Hersham’ for up to date news about the project as it unfolds.
We look forward to hearing from you soon and please ask if you have any questions about Love Hersham.
