Elmbridge Council Digital High Street Grant For E-Commerce Websites

In October last year Elmbridge Borough Council launched a new grant scheme to support independent high street retailers by contributing 90% to the cost of a new or upgrading an existing e-commerce website (up to a maximum of £2000).

With Independent High Street retailers under increasing pressure from online sellers who of course aren’t subject to the overheads of managing a bricks and mortar high street presence, not to mention the cost of business rates, this is an encouraging move in the right direction by Elmbridge Borough Council.

There are some restrictions on who can apply and what types of work are ineligible:

Who Can Apply?

The scheme is open to independent retail businesses based in the defined primary or secondary frontage of Elmbridge’s town centres and high streets.

Businesses providing professional services, such as accountancy, are ineligible.

Applicants must also have been trading for at least one year.

What Projects Are Ineligible?

The following projects are ineligible:

• Websites which will not have e-commerce functionality.
• Hardware e.g. computers.
• Services e.g. digital coaching/consultancy.
• Maintenance of existing digital technology.
• Domain name.
• Website hosting as a stand-alone cost.
• Paid advertising e.g. Google AdWords, Facebook etc.
