October Half Term Activities

You do realise that once this Half Term is over it’s open season for Christmas planning…!

We think this is our favourite Half Term as all the local venues really push the boat out and go Halloween-tastic with their imaginations, events and activities!

Witches, Wizards, Crafts and Trails, Creepy Crawlys, Birds of Prey, a Monster and Pumpkins, lots and lots of Pumpkins!!

Bocketts Farm – Wizards and Witches Week!

20th – 28th October 2018

Encounter a range of reptiles and creepy crawlies in the Reptile Roadshow. An amazing opportunity to get close to some beautiful and unusual creatures!

Enjoy exciting shows daily from our wickedly wonderful WIZARD MAGICIAN! Various show times throughout the day.

Explore the Spooktacularly Fun Trail as you help Mr Funny Bones find the missing clues around the farm. Don’t miss your free treat when you finish!

Enjoy a full programme of fun farm activities with Animal Handling, Goat Milking, Tractor Rides, Pony Rides and Pig Racing!

Get creative in our Creepy Craft Corner with badges, colouring sheets, hat making and lots more!

Take home a homegrown Bocketts Farm pumpkin. Hundreds to choose from and on sale all week.

Open Every Day: 10am – 5.30PM

Please note that all Halloween decorations, Craft Corner and the themed trail will run until 31st October.



Brooklands Museum

Half Term Family Fun

October 22 to 26 – 10:00 to 16:00

On weekdays during Half Term, the popular car rides will be operating from 11am-1pm and from 2-3.30pm (subject to weather).

Take a trip in a vintage-style car up Test Hill or along the Members’ Banking of the old Race Track, courtesy of the Brooklands Volunteer Car Rides Team. Also, London Bus Museum will be operating bus rides around the local area.

Look out for Bertie the Brooklands Bear, who will be making guest appearances, pick up one of our trails for children up to 12 years old or join in with our Half Term family workshop (scroll down for details).

For Half Term there will be a special exhibition in the Art Gallery of the entries to our Young Photographer Competition 2018.

October Half Term Workshop – Design Your Own Poppy

This year we will be celebrating 100 years since the end of WWI. Help us build a poppy exhibition by designing and making your own poppy.

Free drop-in activity. Workshop open 11am – 12:00pm and 1pm – 3:00pm. All materials will be provided.



Chertsey Museum – October Half Term Fun

Cute Cardboard Cats – 23 Oct 2018

Make a friendly, scary or spooky cat out of a small cardboard box.

Age Range 5 to 12 years (5 year olds must be accompanied by an adult). Advance booking required

Spooky Mansions – 25 Oct 2018

Make a 3D spooky mansion with windows, creatures and even lights!

Claremont Gardens

Half-term Hansel and Gretel trail

20th to 28th October – 10:00 to 16:00

Follow in the footsteps of Hansel and Gretel and help them to escape from the clutches of the wicked witch. This October half-term trail will lead you on a spine tingling walk around the garden, learning all about spooky tales of wicked wolves and irksome elves.

Normal Admission Charges plus £1 for the trail (Kids in fancy dress can do the trail for free.)

Fairy Tail Crafts

22nd to 24th October – 11:00 to 13:00

Glue sticks at the ready! Create some magical fairy tale crafts, inspired by traditional spooky fairy tales. Perfect for little people of all ages. In the craft tent in the gardens- please ask at the kiosk for directions.

Pumpkin Carving

25th October – 11:00 to 13:00

Come to Claremont this Halloween and carve pumpkins into spine-tingling decorations for your doorsteps. Please bring your own pumpkin.

Spooky Walk

26th October – various times from 17:00 onwards

Come to Claremont for a horrifying Halloween walk around the garden. Dare to be scared on a night for a fright. Ghosts, ghouls and lost souls – you’ll be horrified by who you meet along the way.

Monster Hunt

From Monday 22nd October we will have a ‘Monster Hunt’, as well as a colouring-in competition. Pick up the forms and find out more at the customer service desk in the Garden Centre.



Ham House

Hallowe’en Hocus Pocus

20th to 28th October – 10:00 to 17:00

Hunt out the evidence for ghosts and witches at Ham House. Can it all e explained, or is there something else more mysterious going on? Decide for yourself if tales of 17th century ghosts and witchcraft is Real or Bogus. There’s spooky storytelling, pumpkin biscuit decorating and eerie art to enjoy.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Terrible Terror Tours

22nd to 26th October – 17:00 to 18:00

Ghost tours suitable for all ages that will entertain and delight your little terrors, thrill teenagers and entertain all. Learn about the spooky history of Ham House and the tales of lives and loves lost long ago. Tickets include a gift bag.

Meet at the entrance to Ham House at our Visitor Reception after 4:30. If you would like to visit Ham House prior to your tour, normal admission prices applies.

Hampton Court

Beast Quest

20th to 28th October, 11:00-16:00

The Dark Wizard Malvel has taken over Hampton Court Palace, bringing all of its resident Beasts to life (as well as some famous faces from history!)

Now Tom and Elenna need your help to save the Hampton Court Beasts from his wicked spells.

You’ll be guided by our resident Questers, and will need to work together as a team, solving puzzles, riddles and games, all while Evil stalks the historic palace!

Hatchlands Park

Halloween Duck Hunt

20th to 31st October – 10:00 to 17:00

A flock of spooky ducks has flown in and invaded the parkland – a rarely reported, yet terrifying phenomenon that occurs surprisingly regularly in the Surrey countryside. How many can you spot on our Halloween duck trail?

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Pumpkin Carving

20th to 31st October – 10:30 to 16:00

Feeling crafty? Then it’s time to try your hand at pumpkin carving. Choose a pumpkin and carve a scary face to ward off spooky spirits and ghostly ghouls.

Workshops will run every half hour from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Timeslots are limited to half an hour and so we’d ask that you arrive in plenty of time for your slot.

Frankenstein House Trail

21st, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 28th October – 14:00 to 16:30

Enjoy a monstrous trail through the house. Find different bits of different bodies spread around the mansion in paintings, on statues and other cunning hiding places. Find them all and combine them to make your very own Frankenstein’s monster.




Monday 22nd to 26th October – 10:00 to 18:00

Creepy Crawlies

Head over to our Gruesome Granary where you can meet and greet a selection of our reptiles, invertebrates and arachnids during the afternoons.

Pumpkin Bowling

Grab a pumpkin and have a go at trying to knock down the pins.

Come along a make some fun/scary arts and crafts in our Yurt

Ghostly Tales

Join the Hobblers for a ‘not so spooky’ story in our new look teepee

Falconry Displays

Meet and greet our Birds of Prey and watch a fantastic flying demonstration on Monday 22nd and Friday 26th October.

Indoor fun

A guaranteed 90 minutes in our 14,000sqft indoor playbarn. Ticketed time slots are allocated on a first come first served basis at time of entry.

Help the ‘odd’ but friendly Witch Hazel and Wizard Wrinklerump investigate the Sock of Shock, before teaching Oddwyn how stylish spooks strut their stuff on our fearsome fancy dress catwalk! Why not dress to impress in your own Halloween costume too?

Things That Go Oink in the Night – Halloween Show

What terrifying creature could be wandering the farm at night keeping Oddwyn awake? A monster? A ghoul? No, it’s Odds Farm Park’s own Marmalade pig who has been sleep walking! Join our happy Halloween crew to help Marmalade sleep soundly!

Pumpkin Carving

Grab a mini wheelbarrow and explore the Pumpkin Patch Garden to find and Pick Up Your Own Pumpkin*, once you have chosen your Pumpkin, head onto the Carving Corner and get carving! How spooky will yours be?

*Small extra charge for Pumpkin – please remember to bring a reusable bag to take your Pumpkin home.




Wild Halloween Camp

22nd to 26th October – 09:00 to 16:00

Have a wild time this half term on our Wild Halloween Camp with den building, campfires, and loads more spooky adventures in Painshill’s wild woods! With five days of exciting activities, children aged between 8-13 will have a spook-tacular time!

Monday: Deep Dark Woods

Head into the deep dark woods to build a den fit for the wickedest of witches. Gather round the campfire for lunch and hot chocolate before an afternoon of spooky Halloween-themed woodland games.

Tuesday: Monster Madness

Build monstrous sandcastle lairs and make a messy mud monster and creepy clay creations. Make yummy Halloween doughnuts over a toasty campfire.

Wednesday: Trick-or-Treat Challenge

Face the tricky challenges as you search for treats through the spooky woods and gothic ruins. Get the popcorn popping over the fire and settle down with some cosy campfire games. Get creative with our arty- bush crafty workshop, making wonderful woolly or woody Halloween decorations and jewellery.

Thursday: Wild Dens Halloween Special

An extra-special den building day; decorate dens with spider web dream catchers and paint them with mud, smashed chalk and home-made charcoal. Refuel by lighting your own fire with fire steels to toast marshmallows.

Friday: Halloween Feast!

Gather round a blazing fire to cook a Halloween feast of mummified sausages or spider pizzas – you can even make your own toffee apple. Carve a creepy Pumpkin lantern to take home with you.

Children MUST be 8 years to 13 years

Cost: £40 per day or £170 for 5 days

Find the pumpkins hidden around Piglets and receive a little Halloween treat! Just ask for an answer sheet when you sign in.

Polesden Lacey

Halloween Trail – The Hounds of Polesden Rise Again

20th to 31st October – 10:00 to 15:00

Mrs. Greville, owner of Polesden Lacey buried all her beloved dogs in a doggy cemetery here at Polesden Lacey, each with their favourite toy.

However, the hounds of Polesden aren’t resting peacefully in their graves this Halloween – they are on the rampage! Their toys have gone missing! Where could they have gone? And who took them?

The dogs can’t rest until they’ve been reunited with their most special toys.

Only the bravest detectives must attempt this mission. Follow the ghostly dogs down Nun’s Walk to reunite each of the spooky toys with their owners. Unravel the hidden clues and you might even find the ghostly criminal himself…!

This is a family activity and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Suitable for children age 4 – 11 yrs.

The trail may get muddy, so please wear suitable clothing. Every child will be awarded with a prize for completing the trail.

Pyjama Drama

Room On The Broom

Tuesday 23rd October 9:45 – 10:45 – Esher Rugby Club, 369 Molesey Road, KT12 3PF

This sixty-minute interactive performance will be the most exciting thing you do this half-term (3 – 7 yrs). The Witches’ favourite black hats have been stolen by a hungry witch-eating dragon. So it’s time to learn how to ride your flying broomsticks, before setting off to get those hats back. But be careful as flying broomsticks are pretty tricky things and you never know which way they will fly.

The Greatest Showman – Workshop

30th & 31st October 10:00 – 16:00

Join us this October half term for a 2-day workshop based on the hit film ‘The Greatest Showman.’

Using the songs and film as inspiration, we’ll delve into the world of the Circus and work towards an informal presentation at the end of the second day.

You don’t have to be a Stagecoach student to attend – come and enjoy 2 days of singing, acting and dance!
