Somehow 2019 brings us its first Half Term – its the middle of February how did that happen!

For those fortunate enough to be jetting away to hit the slopes or for some well deserved winter sun this February half term scroll on, nothing to see here, not at all jealous!

Any of you still reading are here to find out whats going on locally to keep the kids entertained, busy and tire them out!

As luck would have it there is plenty going on and suitable for all budgets with special mention to low cost or free activities!



We normally list our Half Term activities alphabetically but are breaking with tradition on this occasion and listing the Elmbridge Countryside Team events – all completely FREE – first of all!


Family Countryside Events from the Elmbridge Borough Council Countryside Team

Orienteering – Tuesday 19 February – Start between 2pm and 3pm

Horseshoe Clump car park (opposite Blackhills), Portsmouth Road, Esher KT10 9JL. Test your navigation skills on one of the permanent orienteering courses

Welly Walks – Wednesday 20 February. Meet at 1.30pm.

Arbrook Common car park, Arbrook Lane, Claygate, nearest postcode KT10 9EG. Enjoy a short walk on Arbrook Common, with a stop at the end to play and enjoy a hot chocolate.

Wild at Play – Sunday 24 February. Drop in between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Follow signs from the car park. Copsem Lane car park, Copsem Lane, nearest postcode KT10 9HQ. Den building, toasting marshmallows, arts and crafts, bug hunting … Take your pick!

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Unless event is drop in please arrive at the meeting point at the start time. Our car parks don’t have postcodes, the postcodes given are the nearest, please contact us if you are unsure of the location.




Penguin Activity Week

Monday 18th February – Friday 22nd February 2019

Join us this February half term for our popular Penguin Activity Week! Alongside a special themed trail we will have arts & crafts based in the Aquarium, plus watch our penguins being fed at 11am and 3.30pm everyday! PLUS a chance to win some great prizes!



Bocketts Farm

16th – 24th February 2019

Over 70 gorgeous new born lambs are due in our Big Animal Barn. You may get the chance to watch one being born!

‘Meet the Shepherd’ in sessions throughout the day. An opportunity to learn all about our sheep and lambs from the Shepherd himself!

Birds of Prey flying demonstrations. Monday to Friday only from 11am – 4pm. Flying demonstrations at 12pm and 2pm.

Join the wonderful ‘Gigglettes’ from The Giggle Company for lots of dancing, games, bubbles and more! Sessions running daily at 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 2.00pm & 3.00pm.

Get creative in our Craft Corner with badges, colouring sheets and much more!

Enjoy a full programme of fun farm activities with Animal Handling, Goat Milking, Tractor Rides, Pony Rides and Pig Races.



Bourne Hall Museum

Make and wrap a mummy and other amazing Egyptian crafts

Tuesday 14 February; 10.30am – 12noon (fully booked!), 3pm – 4.30pm (second identical session due to high interest)

Learn about the art of ancient Egypt and have fun wrapping mummies and carving hieroglyphics. The class is run by art teacher Jo Sharpe. For ages 6 and above.

Cost £7 (includes all materials). Please book in advance, only 15 in a session.



Brooklands Museum

16th – 24th February 2019 – 10:00 to 4pm

On weekdays during Half Term, our popular car rides will be operating from 11am-1pm and from 2-3.00pm.

Take a trip in a vintage-style car up Test Hill or along the Members’ Banking of the old Race Track, courtesy of the Brooklands Volunteer Car Rides Team. Also, London Bus Museum will be operating bus rides around the local area.

Explore the new Aircraft Factory which has lots of interactive displays and giant sections of aircraft. There is an upper level too that leads to the Flight Shed where our LIVE aircraft are and you can sit in a cockpit. Look out for Bertie the Brooklands Bear, who will be making guest appearances* or join in with our Half Term family workshop.

Kids Tours on Concorde

Every weekday during the Holidays at 10:55 and 13:25.

During School Holidays, we run dedicated Kids Tours on Concorde at set times during the day. The tour is tailored for our younger audience, with fun and noise encouraged!

Pre-booking of the Kids Tours on Concorde is highly recommended.

Half Term Bird Watch

Help us celebrate our feathered friends this half term! 18-22nd February

Watching wild birds from your window is a rewarding pastime. Bird watchers are often nicknamed twitchers. This half term we are celebrating our British native feathered friends. Why not become a twitcher for the day and see if you can spot the birds that have flown and landed in Garsons Garden Centre and Garsons Farm shop.

Bird hunt entries will have the chance to win PRIZES.

We also have a British native bird colouring competition with a fantastic prize on offer.

For a chance to win please collect a bird hunt form and colouring sheet daily from Garsons Customer Services desk in store from Monday 18th February – Friday 22nd February.



Godstone Farm

Mini Farmer Week

16th – 24th February

For all wanna-be farmers and animal lovers, Godstone Farm is the place to explore this February Half Term.

A week-long chance to take part in true farmyard fun, with animal encounters galore, earn your stamps as you complete activities on our farm trail.

There’s feeding, grooming, and milking, all whilst learning about animal husbandry and why the residents at Godstone Farm are so happy! Expect to see leaping lambs in our cosy animal barn, furry and feathered babies in our animal holding area and pretty pink snouts when you’re out and about!

Our warm indoor play areas provide a chance to let off steam and refuel ahead of more animal antics.



Guildford Museum

Guildford Museum is housed in beautiful, historic buildings next to the Castle Grounds. The exhibitions are free to visit and include a variety of changing exhibitions, plus a permanent collection of objects dating from prehistoric times.

Guildford Museum has a free permanent collection of exhibits, and frequently hosts a variety of events and touring exhibitions and is open Mondays to Saturdays, 11am to 5pm. Last entry: 4.45pm.

Family Fun Session

Saturday 16 February

Make a Tudor knot garden at Guildford Museum.

In February take part in our Tudor activities inspired by the building the museum is housed in which was a family home in Tudor times.

Test your sense of smell as we learn about the different spices brought to Britain in Tudor times.

Spot the Tudor features and objects round the museum and make your own Tudor knot garden to take home.



Ham House

February Half Term: Shaping Nature

16th to 24th February – 10:00 to 17:00

How does a garden grow? With lots of shapes, patterns and symmetry. Spot them around you and plan your own garden.

This February half term get out in the gardens to find out how we go from wild and free to fancy and formal. An exciting new project re-imagining the formal gardens is bringing shapes, colours and symmetry to life in the plats and you can be a part!

Pick up a trail from Visitor Reception for £2 with prize to design your own garden. Enter your design into our competition to win a day as a gardener.

Or get mucky to help the gardeners prepare new flower beds and family tasting garden.

Hampton Court

Report for Court – A family adventure for half term

It’s 1709, Queen Anne is on the throne and a boom in the printing of daily newspapers means court gossip is now everyone’s business.

Rumours are rife about Queen Anne’s ‘favourite’. Is it Abigail Masham or Sarah Churchill? The press are desperate to find out the truth.

Join in this fun, family adventure around the palace as you investigate which of the two ladies the Queen really prefers.

Follow budding reporter Susannah Centlivre and meet two rival newspaper editors with different opinions, before choosing a favourite yourself.

You can also find some ‘Exclusive Extras!’ characters hidden around the palace who will share more secrets to help you make your mind up.

Family trails

Packed with fun quizzes, activities, facts and illustrations, our free family trails are the perfect way to explore Hampton Court Palace as a family. Hard copies are available at the palace’s Information Centre after you have purchased your tickets. When you’ve completed one, bring it back for a prize!



Hatchlands Park

February half-term

Nautical Knot Trail. Have a go at tying boating knots on our fun sea-themed trail through the parkland.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Please dress for the weather with wellies or walking boots strongly recommended. This is a winter parkland trail and you’ll likely encounter a little mud.



Hersham Safari Golf

A rare opportunity to go behind the scenes on a tour of the Tropical Nursery at Kew.

Our nurseries are teeming with life, as Kew experts cultivate and nurture some of the world’s most interesting tropical plants, giving our researchers a great resource to explore conservation efforts.

You’ll find out more about the fiesty carnivorous plant, the wonderfully diverse orchids and the prickly cacti, and many more.

Tours run from 12.45pm, 1.30pm & 2.15pm. Booking is essential as capacity is limited.

Come and join us at the Living Planet Centre this half term to go on a journey of discovery through our fantastic interactive exhibition – the WWF Experience. Take our special quiz to find out about the wonders of the natural world and take part fun creative activities in the colourful learning zone.

Show the Love – Join us to make beautiful bunting made out of recycled materials decorated with green hearts to help us Show the Love for our world.

Thursday February 21st

Earth Hour – Join us to find out actions you can take to protect our world and to make a fabulous Bag for Life which will reduce plastic and act as a lasting reminder of your Promise for the Planet.

45 minute sessions will start at 10.30am, 11.15am and 12pm on Tuesday 19th February and Thursday 21st February.

The WWF Experience is open from Monday to Friday 9am -5pm

Suitable for ages 4+. Free, suggested donation £3 per child.



Odds Farm

There’s plenty of all-weather animal fun. Families on a day out can meet the farmers and plenty of furry friends in the large indoor Animal Hands On Area, now open all day long. Children will love to stroke bunnies, hand feed cheeky goats and sheep, see mischievous piglets, meet friendly donkeys and more! Plus, with plenty of baby lambs due, children might even be lucky and see a lamb being born.

Combined with the Adventure Maze, Go Karts, Outdoor Log Play and a jam packed Animal Activity and Demonstration Programme, there’s so much to do on a day out! So much in fact, you will deserve a break in the Tea Room or the heated Playbarn Gallery, complete with Soft Play Area for the little ones.

Lamb Watch

Over 30 ewes will be ready to lamb at Odds Farm Park from this February Half Term! Head into the Lamb Nursery to meet the new arrivals, whilst you learn all about lambing from the farmers. Be sure to keep a close watch on the Ewes for signs of labour during your visit, as you may even be lucky enough to see a lamb being born!*

Bottle Feed Kid Goats

Why not also help the farmers to Bottle Feed our goats, however make sure you hold onto the bottle tightly, as they are all very hungry! The ever-popular Bottle Feeding activity is back daily from February Half Term.




Wild Woodland Camp

19th, 20th and 21st February – 9:00am – 4.00pm

Have a wild time this half-term with campfire cooking, den building and much more! Our Wild Woodland Camp 2019 is the perfect way to have a fun-filled half-term break, with three days of exciting outdoor adventures for children aged 8 to 13 years.

Tuesday 19th – Wild in the Woods

Scout out the perfect woodland spot to build a cosy den before lighting your own fire with fire steels to toast marshmallows. Gather around a big camp fire to warm up your lunches and cosy round with a hot drink. Explore the woods by taking our leaders special “short-cuts” on secret paths, enjoying forest-themed games and team challenges along the way.

Wednesday 20th – Winter Feast

A day for playing games and making tasty treats. Journey deep into the woods for a morning of exciting woodland games; make friends camouflaging into the forest with extreme hide and seek, capture the flag and other forest favourites. Build a roaring fire in our outdoor kitchen to cook-up treats including popcorn and campfire doughnuts and mix yourself a whippy-hot chocolate or babycino (with extra marshmallows!)

Thursday 21st – Woodland Bushcraft

Head deep into the woods to gather all you need to survive and thrive in the wild – playing survival games, identifying edible and poisonous plants, tracking animals and foraging. Have a go with bushcraft tools to make a bushcraft object out of wood to take home, whether it is a mallet, butter knife or even a spoon.

Polesden Lacey

February half term Trail: Polesden Pairs

A fun trail around the grounds for children from age 4 upwards.

In this imaginative trail for families, there’s panic in the house. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mum) are visiting for their honeymoon and Mrs Greville’s servants have been emptying the rooms to prepare – but lots of items have gone missing! Help us find the missing objects hidden around the gardens, pairing them up with the pictures on your trail sheet.

There will be a prize included in the price of the trail.

14th to 23rd February

Large in size, and keen in nature, Zog is so eager to win a golden star at Madam Dragon’s school, where dragons learn all the things that dragons need to know. Zog tries so very hard, perhaps too hard, and he bumps, burns and roars his way through years one, two and three.

Luckily, the plucky Princess Pearl patches him up ready to face his biggest challenge yet – a duel with Gadabout the Great!

The week kicks into action in this workshop for 5 – 8 year olds. Become mini photographers and make your own cardboard cameras to showcase your drawing designs on a reel.

Delve into learning about colours and tones in this workshop for 8 – 12 year olds. You will take inspiration from the Upper Gallery exhibition, Cyril Mann: Painter of Light and Shadow, learning how to use acrylic paints to create masterpieces fir for the gallery walls.

The week draws to a close with a free drop-in session, adding colour, lines and patterns to create simple and fun picture frames for your favourite photos. Suitable for children aged 4+.

The Lookout Discovery Centre

Science Exhibitions

At The Look Out Discovery Centre, we love hands-on science. We have over 90 activities which children of all ages can enjoy and learn from.

You can launch a hydrogen rocket, play with boats in the indoor stream or build a house with your friends. We are sure that The Look Out will have something for everyone in your group to enjoy.

Our activities and exhibits are organised in ‘zones’ which correspond with what your child may be learning about at school. We hope that a visit to The Look Out will help them to experience how exciting science is.



Walton Firs Activity Centre

Adventure, activity and learning combine at Walton Firs – a multi-purpose site nestled within 36 acres of beautiful forest, offering children, teenagers and adults a new experience. We are open to all youth groups, schools and colleges and offer a huge range of indoor and outdoor pursuits, that can be enjoyed over a day, weekend or longer.

Located in a quiet, tucked away corner of Surrey we offer a haven of educational fun, but are still close enough to the M25 to be easily accessible by all groups.

The Great Brick Safari

Come on safari with us here at RHS Garden Wisley

Escape the winter blues and come on a journey inside the Glasshouse at RHS Garden Wisley to search for more than 40 LEGO® brick sculptures on The Great Brick Safari.

Discover life-size LEGO brick creations nestled amongst the lush foliage in both the temperate and tropical zones of the Glasshouse.

See if you can spot an elephant, lions, meerkats, turtles and a gorilla. And look out for beautiful LEGO brick plants created especially for RHS Garden Wisley including a venus fly trap, golden barrel cactus, bird of paradise and water lilies.
