The October Half Term is always our favourite as so many of our local places to go really push the boat out with spooky and imaginative Halloween themed children’s activities!

This year is no exception and you’ll find an abundance of Witches, Wizards, Halloween Disco’s, Spooky Walk’s and Trails, Rockets’s, Dragon’s, Lantern’s and of course…..Pumpkins…lots and lots and lots of Pumpkins.

Birdworld

Halloween Activity Week – 28th October to 1st November.

Feel your hair stand on end and a shiver down your spine as you walk through the creepy corridors of Birdworld’s unique Halloween Grotto.

Join the Wizard as he entertains you with his impressive and daring magic tricks(Mon-Thurs) or follow the spooky activity trail around the park to learn gruesome facts about different species.

Running from 11am – 4pm all week, there will be themed arts and crafts as well as face painting (separate charges apply) Finally, jump aboard the chilling Safari road train for a tour around the back of some of the larger bird paddocks.

The Halloween Grotto will be open from Saturday 19th October to Sunday 3rd November.

Discover the story of Alcock and Brown’s 1919 crossing in the First to the Fastest storytelling sessions and activity trail. Get dressed up as a Concorde pilot, make your own supersonic badges and explore the Concorde mini-exhibition to discover the story behind this incredible aircraft.

Museum Explorer event – Elmbridge at War Experience

A fun interactive and educational session. Find out about life in Elmbridge in WW2. Take part in gas mask training and an air raid drill. Discover where bombs fell and learn where to find bits of a bomb after a raid.

Little Street

October Half Term Workshops

Come and join us at the Living Planet Centre this October half term to go on a journey of discovery through our fantastic interactive exhibition – the WWF Experience. Take our special quiz to find out about the wonders of the natural world and take part in fun creative activities in the colourful learning zone.

Have fun upcycling your old t-shirts!

Every year we throw millions of tons of clothes away into landfill sites – which is putting an increasing pressure on our planet and its people. Why not give your old t-shirt a new lease of life by adding fun designs using felt tip pens, bits of fabric and felt, buttons, ribbons, and cutting patterns into the t-shirt!

This half-term holiday we’ll be having fun upcycling on Tuesday 29th October and Thursday 31st October! Both days we’ll be working with the basic (re-used) t-shirt taken from your cupboard! Please bring along one of your old t-shirts to the session here at the Living Planet Centre, and we will provide pens, scissors, glue, fabric and bits and pieces you should wish to add to your masterpiece!

The sessions will run as follows:

Tuesday 29th October – 10:00-10:50am and 11:00-11:50am; Tuesday’s sessions will be for our younger children 4-8 year olds.

Thursday 31st October – 10:00-10:50am and 11:00-11:50am: Thursday’s sessions will be slightly more challenging where the 8-14 year olds will be exploring ideas and designs.

There’s plenty of all-weather animal fun. Families on a day out can meet the farmers and plenty of furry friends in the large indoor Animal Hands On Area, now open all day long. Children will love to stroke bunnies, hand feed cheeky goats and sheep, see mischievous piglets, meet friendly donkeys and more!

The Lookout Discovery Centre

Science Exhibitions

At The Look Out Discovery Centre, we love hands-on science. We have over 90 activities which children of all ages can enjoy and learn from.

You can launch a hydrogen rocket, play with boats in the indoor stream or build a house with your friends. We are sure that The Look Out will have something for everyone in your group to enjoy.

Our activities and exhibits are organised in ‘zones’ which correspond with what your child may be learning about at school. We hope that a visit to The Look Out will help them to experience how exciting science is.

Drawing on the ancient tradition of coil building, experiment with shape and form to make a coil pot of your own, before decorating it with slip to create colourful patterns inspired by Middle Eastern design.

Back to Nature Garden

Open till 3rd of November

The new Back to Nature Garden for children at RHS Garden Wisley was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge on 10 September.

Fun play elements featured in the Back to Nature Garden include elements from the original garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, such as the hollow log and boulders from the waterfall, as well as the wildflower meadow, hidden burrow and rolling hill from RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.

Brand new features for Wisley include trampolines surrounded by trees, two treehouses, linked via a walkway with slides, and a living willow pod.

Time slots for the Back to Nature Garden last for 45 minutes. The first time slot of the day is 10.30am and the last is 4.30pm.

General admission will also be available daily – please note queues may be possible. Normal Garden admission applies to your visit.

Pumpkin Carving

26, 27 and 30 October – 10.30am, 11.15am, 12noon, 1.30pm, 2.15pm and 3pm

Design and carve a spectacular pumpkin for your Halloween celebrations at RHS Garden Wisley. This activity is suitable for age 6+. Please book in advance.

Birds of Prey Displays

26th and 27th October – Displays at 11am and 2pm

See the enthralling birds of prey agility demonstrations taking place on Seven Acres (west) at RHS Garden Wisley and get to meet the wonderful birds up close. Watch them take flight at 11am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Drama workshops

Monday 28 October and Friday 1 November 2019
10.15–11.15am and 1.30–2.30pm (age 4–7)
11.30am–12.30pm and 2.45–3.45pm (age 8–12)

Join us to experience the life of a bug (age 4–7) or dramatise The Day of The Dead (age 8–12). Children can be left with our tutor and parents are invited to return 10 minutes before the end of the session for a mini show! Please book in advance; £6 (age 4–7) and £10 (age 8–12)

Winkworth Arboretum

Peculiar Pumpkins trail

There are strange goings on at Winkworth this Halloween. Pumpkins have begun to pop up across Winkworth with creepy carved faces – can you solve the mystery? Normal admission applies plus £1 per trail.

Tree Adventure

An exciting new Tree Adventure has opened up here at Winkworth. Complete with a climbing wall, fireman’s pole, rope tunnel and ladders, it’s the perfect way for children to let off some steam.

Pumpkin carving

Halloween is here and it’s the perfect time to create a spook-tacular decoration for your doorstep. Bring your pumpkin along and we’ll help you carve out a creepy face.
